Yeah, I was wondering if someone could help me with this one.  I am working with Office 2000 on a XP system.  When you go into any of the office applications I get an error message saying office has encountered a problem and needs to close.  So far all I have found on this is to get the compatibility tab to make sure it will work with xp which everything is setup correctly and then also to rename the normal.dot file in search which it can't find.  Can anyone help me here.  Thanks.

Do you have the latest Service Pack installed?

SP3 for Office 2000
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=5C011C70-47D0-4306-9FA4-8E92D36332FE&displaylang=EN

You need to search for the normal.dat file not normal.dot.  Here is a good artical on the normal.dat file.  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/214215

If you are still having issues you can try to repair the installation.  Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs and highlight the Office 2000 program then choose the Change button and this will allow you to run a repair.
The only bad question is the question that is not asked.
